A tour of Asia
So I have just returned from a great tour around South East Asia. Starting off in Singapore and then moving on to Kuala Lumpur, Kota Kinabalu on the island of Borneo and finishing up in Taiwan. I have not spent much time out there so for me it was a discovery and I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Singapore to start with is quite an amazing place and it has an array of cultures in a small area, similar in size to Islay in fact. Singapore’s population is 5.2 million compared to Islay’s very small 3,200. But what does strike you is the demand for Islay’s oldest distillery on this very small island in South East Asia.
My tour included plenty of trainings of sales teams with our distributor, tastings in key on trade accounts, media and of course the launch events in Singapore and in Kuala Lumpur.
The launch events were for all of Morrison Bowmore Distillers portfolio so we were taken on a Whisky Voyage in Singapore around all three distilleries (Auchentoshan and Glen Garioch) and in Kuala Lumpur it was A Very Scotch Affair. The launches highlighted Bowmore to a new audience and with the Bowmore 12yo we paired it with Oysters and the amazing 15yo Darkest, some amazing dark chocolate! Sublime!
Bowmore 12yo and fresh Oysters....
Bowmore flying high in Singapore
15yo Darkest with chocolates was a huge hit!
I did two tastings while in Singapore, one at the Olde Cuban in Chinatown and one also for the Esky Club which is the club associated with Esquire Magazine in Singapore. The Olde Cuban does have a superb collection of Bowmore so if you are a cigar fan the head for the Olde Cuban, get yourself a Bowmore 18yo and get settled in! Or alternatively....
