International Mountain Guides Climbing Championships
At Bowmore we’re always trying to reach new heights with our whisky, but this is the first time we’ve had vertigo! Bowmore has been working with the British Mountain Guides as they host this year’s International Federation of Mountain Guides Associations annual meeting over the past week. Earlier in the week we’d scaled Ben Nevis and had a whisky tasting in Aviemore. On Friday 23rd November we were at the Edinburgh International Climbing Arena for the annual IFMGA climbing championships.
For the first time the climbing championships have been held in conjunction with the IFMGA general meeting and conference in Aviemore meaning the quality of competitions this year is at an all time high.
The annual IFMGA climbing championships offer a unique opportunity for guides from across the world to gather, to make new friends, and to mingle in an atmosphere of friendly and supportive competition. The Edinburgh climbing arena is well known on the international indoor climbing circuit as an inspiring and state of the art climbing venue.
Winners of the climbing completion went home with some very special Bowmore whisky, and there were even miniatures on offer for anyone brave enough to try the tough dry tooling wall.
The climbing competition brought an end to the conference and our week with the mountain guides, but what a week it’s been!
