Whisky Live Paris
I was at Whisky Live Paris this weekend having been in Germany at Copernicker WhiskyHerbst. Both shows are exceptionally different in their approaches and the format, but both shows do exceedingly well at allowing us to promote our products to key consumers and trade. I held a masterclass at Copernicker for which we had over 60 people attending and we discussed the difference between the 12yo and 15yo Darkest expressions which of course are huge due to the cask types used. The 12yo is mainly matured in ex-Bourbon casks but also has a hint of ex-Sherry matured whisky in it giving it great complexity with the smokiness and saltiness apparent but balanced with the citrusy lemon and honey notes. The 15yo Darkest is what we call a finish with initally 12 years in ex-Bourbon casks and then finished for a 3 year period in first fill ex-Olrosso sherry casks producing rich dark fruits and dark chocolate flavours which make it so delicious.
Whisky Live Paris is probably the most important show in Europe and attracts a huge variety of key consumers but also key on and off trade looking to find out more about distilleries and new releases. We had the new Tempest Batch 4 on show to sample. This is not even bottled as I speak and not in market as yet but will be in mid-October. It has the DNA of all the other Tempest's in terms of the Bowmore smokiness and sea salt tang and of course is matured only in ex-Bourbon casks at cask strength. But it is the beauty of small batch production and 100% first fill casks that enables us to produce the very different flavours apparent in this exceptional whisky which differentiates it slightly from the other award winning Tempest releases that have gone before. It was very very popular in Paris so strongly recommend to go and get it when it is out folks!
