Bowmore commissioned digital content agency Bright Signals to produce an immersive, 360° virtual reality experience of the Bowmore distillery, in particular highlighting the uniqueness of Bowmore's No.1 vaults. The tour begins with a journey through the distillery, highlighting the techniques that make Bowmore so distinctive. Then once within the Vaults, users are shown the effects of wood and time on our precious liquid. The simplest way to try the virtual reality experience is to go to www.bowmore.com/virtual-reality on any modern smartphone or computer. But for a more immersive experience, particularly one that is suited to travel retail or exhibition use, we recommend investing in dedicated hardware that can run the Bowmore Virtual Reality app.

Samsung Gear

For the best quality experience, we recommend the Gear VR headset and a compatible high-end smartphone such as the Samsung Galaxy S7. Our Samsung Gear VR app is available to download for free from the Oculus app store. To use the app:

• Power on the phone as normal
• Click the Oculus icon on the home screen of your phone
• Within the Oculus app, click the Library tab at the bottom
• The Bowmore Virtual Reality: Unlock Hidden Depths app should be shown on screen. Click the start button on the Bowmore icon.
• Insert the phone into the headset as directed on-screen and enjoy.

Google Cardboard

The Gear VR system requires a dedicated headset and specific smartphone to operate. A cheaper alternative is to use Google Cardboard headsets, which can be ordered with Bowmore branding if required. Our Google Cardboard app will run on any modern Android smartphone. As the app isn't intended for home-user installation, it isn't available in the Google Play store. Instead, go to the phone's Settings app, then Security.
